Effects of Rome IV Definitions of Functional Dyspepsia Subgroups in Secondary Care

Background & Aims Functional dyspepsia (FD) is subdivided into postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) and epigastric pain (EPS) according to the Rome III consensus. In clinical practice, there a major overlap between these subgroups. The IV criteria included postprandially occurring symptoms in PDS subgroup. We aimed analyze effects of criteria, compared with III, on FD subgroups patients recruited from secondary care. Methods Patients (n = 224; mean age, 43 ± 1 y; 77% women) were secondary-care units Belgium filled out symptom questionnaires, allowing subdivision identification symptoms.
